Enabling Academic Development
We believe that every child should have the opportunity to reach their academic potential, setting them up for a future that they deserve. In order to support young people to achieve academically, we have a range of initiatives available that will empower them to succeed - both for those pupils who want to join us at the Foundation, or for those children from the local community.
CV34 Bursaries & King Henry VIII Scholarships
We offer both means-tested and academically assessed financial support for talented local children to access our schools – empowering these pupils to achieve their potential and access our outstanding opportunities. Our transformational financial awards are aimed at making sure the education in our schools is open to as many young people as possible.
Inspire Programme
Our Inspire Programme at King’s High School enables gifted and talented young people from the local area to access enhanced learning opportunities in maths and English. Primary school pupils are invited into King’s High on Tuesday afternoons where teachers from our school run sessions in a learning environment specifically designed to ensure each pupil reaches their academic potential.
Saturday School at King's High
Saturday School King’s High enables local year 5 students to further develop their numeracy, literacy, and confidence skills outside of the normal school day. Headteachers at participating schools identify pupils that would most benefit from extra support and offer them spaces at the Saturday School, free of charge. The school runs during term-time and lessons are planned to align with the national curriculum and recap and revise much of what is taught in the children’s timetabled lessons. Classes are delivered by specialist subject and key stage teachers and are at a much lower capacity than those in mainstream school which enables the students to get much more focused support and creates a space for their confidence and love for learning to grow.
Specialist Subject Support
Students from CV34 schools attend the Foundation to take part in weekly Science and Food Technology lessons, led by subject specialist teachers and supported by King’s High and Warwick School student volunteers.
These lessons enable both the primary school pupils and our students to practice their technical equipment skills and experience subjects through practical activities.
An example of this specialist subject support includes year groups from Coten End Primary school utilising the Warwick School Science Laboratory every Friday afternoon to take part in a variety of experiments.
A specialist Physics teacher from Warwick School provides the visiting pupils with a short lesson on the scientific background of the experiments they’ll be taking part in, after which they work collaboratively in smaller groups to work on the experiments, supported by our student volunteers.
Through specialist-led co-learning experiences such as these, we hope to increase student’s engagement with their curriculums and enable them to explore subjects more deeply beyond their usual classroom settings. Furthermore, the collaboration between our student volunteers and our partner school pupils develops the communication and confidence skills of all who are involved.
With pupil collaboration at the heart of these specialist support sessions, they enable the sharing of perspectives and can lead to meaningful insights shared between those at different stages of their learning journeys.
Science in Action
As part of our Science In Action programme, students from Myton, Aylesford, and Campion schools work collaboratively with each other and alongside students from our Foundation on scientific investigations that go beyond the A-Level curriculum.
The Science in Action programme, which runs from September to June every Friday afternoon, is hosted by Warwick School and enables access to our state-of-the-art labs and equipment.
Students on the programme successfully refer to this activity as part of their UCAS applications and university interviews (including Oxbridge). Since it has been introduced, we have been delighted that many students from the local area have taken up this fantastic opportunity which has enabled them to further enhance their experience in science and engineering.
